We are delighted to announce and share the many successes of Mr Ashwin Kumaria who received the SRHSB/Integra Travelling Fellowship in 2023 to undertake a project entitled “Observership in Paediatric Neurosurgery: A comparison of the management of hydrocephalus associated with paediatric brain tumours”, under the supervision of Dr (Prof) Sanjay Behari (Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, India). This Fellowship resulted in some very productive outcomes which are summarised in his attached Fellowship report Abstract here. Beyond this, Ashwin has now prepared a full article as a preprint entitled How is Rosette Formation in Brain Tumours Linked with Cerebrospinal Fluid Spread?” which is currently under consideration for publication in Brain Research, and which can be accessed on the SSRN website

During the period of his SRHSB/Integra Travelling Fellowship, he has also published a Letter to the Editor of Cerebral Cortex entitled Neural stem cells and pediatric hydrocephalus: further observations.

Work undertaken by Ashwin as part of his SRHSB/Integra Travelling Fellowship also contributed to him being awarded the prestigious Sir Hugh Cairns prize at the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) in September in Birmingham.  A picture of him (on left) receiving his award is shown below.

But it doesn’t end there – he was also recently appointed as a Clinical Trustee of the charity Harry’s Hat, whose main objective is to make life better for children with hydrocephalus.

The SRHSB Executive Committee congratulates Ashwin on all these notable accomplishments and accolades and wishes him many future successes. We hope that future potential applicants of the SRHSB/Integra Travelling Fellowship will be both motivated and inspired by these achievements!
