We are delighted to announce that Maria Garcia Bonilla, Ph.D. has been appointed Assistant Professor on the tenure track in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Anatomy and Neurobiology at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, USA. This well-deserved appointment will allow Maria to develop her independent research program in hydrocephalus and to continue her collaboration with Dr. Dave Limbrick (new Neurosurgery Department Chair at VCU) and Professor Pat McAllister. Maria was awarded the SRHSB Norman Guthkelch 2023 Prize at the SRHSB Stirling 2023 Conference Meeting for her presentation entitled “Cerebrospinal fluid-based extracellular vesicle signaling and related T-cell activation mediate the pathogenesis of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus”. Her research at VCU will be supported in part by two grants from the Department of Defense Congressionally-Directed Medical Research Program with her as Principal Investigator.
